Shape 1824 is a strong form — a tall tapered cylinder with a distinct collar neck — and the incised geometric band at the shoulder is exactly the kind of restrained, architectural decoration that made Rookwood's Arts and Crafts-era production pieces hold up over time. The diamond lattice and pointed arch motifs cut through to a lighter cream ground, and the vertical incised lines running the full length of the body keep it from feeling busy. The dusty mauve-rose matte glaze is an unusual color for this type of decoration and works well with it.
